Poetry Month

Kia Ora Koutou

Did you know April was Poetry Month?

We have been learning how to do a range of poems. My favorite type of poem is the diamante. But so far we haven’t made one of those. I have always enjoyed reading shape poems and struggle to make my own shape poems as great as others. But I have now found a site that helps to create shape poems. You type in the words and then you can draw the shape try it out here.

Our teacher shared with us through Hapara Workspace a poem kit. Thank you to those who created it it was a lot of fun to try something different.

Favourite Books

Kia Ora, we have had a big focus on Reading and what we like to read. We did a survey and discussed the results. Each week we read silently, in fact, we had time nearly every day. The teacher tries to out loud at least 4 times a week too. That book this term is Hatchet and that is why our ponder is based on a book. – See the post 2 back.

This week we had to pick our current favourite book of all time, take a photo of the book and us, and add it to a class set of slides. Then we have to sell the book to others. Talk about why we think it is the best book EVER! (They are also printed and up on our wall just outside our class so the class next door can see what we recommend as great books.)

What is your favourite book? Why?

Kawa of Care

Room 9 were learning to identify what is important to them and why.

  • This became part of their ‘Kawa of Care’ where they learned to look after their valuables.

These are some of the responses they had to the question: What is important to you?

It is quite humbling to see that some of them have written, friends, family, teachers and even mentioned the chrome book. I enjoyed watching them have fun with their learning and especially becoming comfortable with Mr Masina and being comfortable with their own abilities.

Next time, I think they will be able to work more collaboratively and understand who they are and that it is okay to make mistakes or to have differences.

What is important to you and why?
