Tuhi Mai Tuhi Atu Where are You?

On Wednesday our teacher told us about the school we are joining to do Tuhi Mai Tuhi Atu – it is where you write comments on other student blogs from schools around the motu. So were checked out where and who the schools are we are blog commenting with.

The schools are Paroa in Greymouth, first, we thought they were in Whakatane then found them in Hokitika, on the West Coast of Te Waipounamu. Glen Innes is our other buddy school, they were easier to find and are in Auckland at first we thought they were a long way from our school (as they were the first school we looked for, after locating our school on the map) until we searched for Paora School.  Edmund Hillary School (our school) is the red marker.

How many Triangles?

Today our Maths investigation was around triangles. Using the dot we had to make right-angle triangles. First, we had to make sure we all knew what that meant. Did you know a square and rectangle have 4 right angle corners? – That means the corners are 90°.

I will tell you how many we found after you tell me how many you find. Remember you can’t count a triangle of the size and shape twice. So be careful how you lay out your triangles, you can use this link to help you with your answer. Good Luck

Our Whole Class Thinks! What is Media?

WALT understand what media is and how it impacts our lives.

Media can either help us or destroy us! There are positive and negative impacts of Media on our lives and these are some of the discussion points we spoke about. Media is a form of communication using several ways to either find information or to provide something, like a service.

The Media is full of truth and lies because we never know if its true or not. So search the internet and ensure that the sources they have are valid. The most trustworthy information you can get is possibly from the libraries and in books because you can’t change the information in the books.

Of course, we will still need to validate what is written in these books.

Media can come in all kinds of ways;

In the Media recently, we have heard a lot about ‘The Elections”. This means we heard about who was going to be the next Prime Minister of New Zealand and which government party would be leading our country. Some of the debates and information didn’t really make sense to me, but I know I will need to take an interest in this soon. In some Media posts we read, there were some negative comments about the different leaders of the parties.

Skills Time

We learned how to create a piece of instrumental beats using Drumbit‘.

Follow our individual blogs to show how it works.

#9 is Alive

We are learning to use google drawing to design a shirt of our choice.

Each week we discover more about what we can learn in our digital world. Observing our students create & innovate has been inspiring especially as we are also using ‘tinkercad’ for our work with Geometry and Measurement at the moment.

#9 is alive is about showing our creative side using google drawings to create a Shirt using word art, importing a png. and colour tones.

What can you design? How did you create it?

Have a go and let us know what you have designed but most of all learn new skills and have fun.
