Tuhi Mai Tuhi Atu Where are You?

On Wednesday our teacher told us about the school we are joining to do Tuhi Mai Tuhi Atu – it is where you write comments on other student blogs from schools around the motu. So were checked out where and who the schools are we are blog commenting with.

The schools are Paroa in Greymouth, first, we thought they were in Whakatane then found them in Hokitika, on the West Coast of Te Waipounamu. Glen Innes is our other buddy school, they were easier to find and are in Auckland at first we thought they were a long way from our school (as they were the first school we looked for, after locating our school on the map) until we searched for Paora School.  Edmund Hillary School (our school) is the red marker.

Poetry Month

Kia Ora Koutou

Did you know April was Poetry Month?

We have been learning how to do a range of poems. My favorite type of poem is the diamante. But so far we haven’t made one of those. I have always enjoyed reading shape poems and struggle to make my own shape poems as great as others. But I have now found a site that helps to create shape poems. You type in the words and then you can draw the shape try it out here.

Our teacher shared with us through Hapara Workspace a poem kit. Thank you to those who created it it was a lot of fun to try something different.

How many Triangles?

Today our Maths investigation was around triangles. Using the dot we had to make right-angle triangles. First, we had to make sure we all knew what that meant. Did you know a square and rectangle have 4 right angle corners? – That means the corners are 90°.

I will tell you how many we found after you tell me how many you find. Remember you can’t count a triangle of the size and shape twice. So be careful how you lay out your triangles, you can use this link to help you with your answer. Good Luck

School Values

Kia Ora

we have been checking out a range of ways to present information. I love word clouds and was curious to find one where students could add ideas in real-time and the cloud is being made. Our focus was sharing what we thought the school values meant to us. I then took a screenshot of each one and here they are.

Then we applied this information and made a mosaic here is an example created by Samsalvation:

Tyson Reo Kupu

Todays cybersmart session we made this at first i didnt understand why we are getting a image but after understood we did this on Google slides i like how it makes the word look nice and contrasted so i really enjoyed doing this activity you could add any image u want like the sea ,the sun anything

Rugby League shirt

Kia Ora, We are learning to create or design a shirt on google drawing. On this drawing we had to create a shirt that looks like people would wear it if they were playing rugby. this was very fun considering that we were creating a shirt of something that not only me but many others that like to play rugby. This was very fun because we were making shirts about anything we would like on it. What I had put on the shirt was just shapes and recolouring. Also what I added was my school name and put a number on it. This design came out better than I was expecting because it looked like someone was going to use it for inspiration.

Have you ever made a shirt?

My Quiz with Matua Aina

Talofa Lava today we were playing a game called Joinmyquizz.com that Matua Aina sent us.It was a fun game because it was like a test from last year and this year because the quiz was like a work that we did before some of it was from cybersmart , we had to memorize what we have done from the past weeks. My score was 18600.

Kawa of Care

Cybemart/kawa of care

We are learning to identify what is important to us and

Why

. We have achieved this when we have:

. Named something which is important to me:

.Told a buddy why it’s important to me

.Explain how we would look after it

. I need to learn to speak up

. I need to corporate more people  then just my friends

. I liked it when we had to explain what was so important

. I liked it when we had to think about whats was so important

.And the two important thing to me was my game and teacher

Q/ What is the to most important things to you?

Kawa of Care

Room 9 were learning to identify what is important to them and why.

  • This became part of their ‘Kawa of Care’ where they learned to look after their valuables.

These are some of the responses they had to the question: What is important to you?

It is quite humbling to see that some of them have written, friends, family, teachers and even mentioned the chrome book. I enjoyed watching them have fun with their learning and especially becoming comfortable with Mr Masina and being comfortable with their own abilities.

Next time, I think they will be able to work more collaboratively and understand who they are and that it is okay to make mistakes or to have differences.

What is important to you and why?
